Online Photo Uses

Well, since I have posted my pictures online, I began to wonder about educational purpose. Unfortunately, I have only come up with a few.

One use would be to document what is happening in the classroom for students and parents or to have the students colaborate on images that support what we are learning in class. These would be the most beneficial ways to use a photo sharing site, although I am still worried about misuses of images.

I can see many parents being concerned about a site with their students images on it. It would be difficult to assure them that none of the images would be misused. So there is some difficulty in using this site for educational purposes. I am not saying that it cannot be done, I am just saying that there are many things to keep in mind when using this type of site. The rules for it would outweigh the benefits of using it.

Hi Clifton, I too had concerns about how photo's could be misused by students. I found myself thinking of ways that I could use the photo sharing tool to enhance my instruction and instructional materials, and I think there may be more uses of this tech. for teachers rather than students.

I liked your idea of having students collaborate to use photo sharing to demonstrate what they are learning in class. I believe it could be structured and supervised in a way that would minimize misuse.

I hadn't thought of the fact that parents may be concerned about images of their children being accessed through the internet but I think you are right and this could be a very real and substantial issue. I am sure you would have parents object to photo sharing activities especially since there has been so much press lately about the misuse of sites like Facebook and Myspace. You make a very good point! Amy

Thanks. I did read one blog that suggested putting images from an educational trip or museum into an online slide show. I thought that was another great use.
